Sprezzatura

Sprezzatura is an Italian word that has originated from the Book of the Courtier by Baldassare Castiglione. It has been described by the author as "a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost without any thought about it." From reading the Book of the Courtier you can see that Sprezzatura is essential in becoming and ideal courtier.

The first book of Courtier depicts the perfect qualities of a courtier. These qualities include having the skills of a warrior, being able to handle weapons, swim and wrestle to showcase his strength and bravery. As well as  being able to have the social skills to make easy conversation and dance whilst being to make all of this look effortless.

These characteristics were supposed to portray the ideal man of the Renaissance.
